As an adoptee, author, and advocate, Dr. Deanna has become increasingly involved in conversations surrounding adoption, identity, search and reunion, adoptee rights, and the lifelong impact of adoption.
Her own search for her biological father—and the extraordinary journey that followed—inspired her recent memoir, Finding Mr. Greek: A Daughter’s Search, a Father Found, and an Unforgettable Journey. Previous to this memoir, two of her books, Worthy to Be Found, and Restored, chronicle her journey to find and reunite with her maternal biological family. She is also a contributing writer to three other highly acclaimed adoption books: Adoption Reunion in the Social Media Age, Adoption Therapy: Perspectives from Clients and Clinicians on Processing and Healing Post Adoption Issues, and The Adoptee Survival Guide.
The miracle story of finding and reuniting with her biological father has been covered by CBS Mornings, The New Yorker Magazine, People Magazine, and many more.
Dr. Deanna’s experiences as an adoptee have deepened her desire to create space for adoptees to speak honestly about their experiences and pursue healing and wholeness. She is the founder of Adoptee Restoration, an adoptee-centered platform dedicated to conversations about identity, loss, reunion, family, faith, restoration, and the complex realities of the adoptee experience. Through writing, resources, interviews, and community, she advocates for greater understanding of adoptee voices and for practices and policies that honor the dignity, identity, and rights of adopted people.
Dr. Deanna is available to speak, teach, participate in interviews and podcasts, and contribute to conversations related to adoption and the adoptee experience.
